Campagna’s Six Guns For Hire Rolls in Toronto

Colm Feore will headline the western, written and co-directed by Matthew Campagna alongside co-director Melissa D’Agostino, with production launched this week.

Canadian filmmaking duo Matthew Campagna and Melissa D’Agostino have launched principal photography on a new feature starring Colm Feore.

Titled Six Guns for Hire, the western who-dunnit will be written, co-directed and edited by Campagna, and follows a detective investigating a deadly conspiracy in the wake of a train robbery and a mysterious group of bandits. D’Agostino is a co-director on the film and is among the cast. Production began in Toronto on March 8.

The film is produced by Breann Smordin and Elizabeth Fraser of Dei Gratia Pictures, the prodco behind Band Ladies, which Campagna and D’Agostino executive produced and distributed through their subscription-based service Highball.TV.

The film is the third in a series of projects set in the same fictional post-apocalyptic universe, which began with Campagna’s 2008 film Six Reasons Why, which also starred Feore. The second, Six Ways to Die, was filmed in fall 2020 and is set to premiere on Highball.TV.

“We’re very fortunate to be able to continue making films in such challenging times,” said D’Agostino and Campagna in a statement. “Our past experience in VFX and working with greenscreen kept us in production by leading us to create a unique COVID shooting plan to keep all cast and crew safe. The circumstances of the pandemic have brought about opportunities to innovate, and we’re thrilled to bring back the original cast, as well as work with new actors on the latest story.”

In January, Campagna said via his website that the project was his most challenging to date and hinted at casting: “This western is the most ambitious feature I’ve ever undertaken, and if you’ve enjoyed the cast of my previous films, you’re going to be damn happy with the ensemble cast that’s coming your way.”

Also starring in the film are Maurice Dean Wint (The Kid Detective), Oyin Oladejo (Endlings) and Patrick Kwok-Choon (Star Trek: Discovery). Other cast members include stage performer Juan Chioran, Carlo Rota (Brick Mansions), Alice Moran (Sunnyside), Darryl Hinds (Royal Canadian Air Farce), Justin Carriere (The Expanse) and Lara Zaluski (Burn Your Maps).
